Welcome  to the Arctic charr website

As the glaciers gradually melted from the northern hemisphere after the last ice age, the first fish to invade the cold waters of the newly formed lakes and rivers was the Arctic charr and its close relatives.
With the adaptability of a true pioneer, this species has changed over the millennia adapting in its new habitats.
The Arctic charr is now an important component of our natural heritage, it is a highly sought-after sporting species and forms the basis of a growing aquaculture industry.
This website is dedicated to provide you with access to a wide range of information on this amazing fish species.
Navigate through the links to find out more about the biology, ecology, conservation and the exploitation of the Arctic charr.
